Without exception, they were unpalatable to US corporate interests and, evidently, to Curtis.
And you’ve just admitted you don’t give a crap about anyone else’s liberty or progress. You want hegemony and that’s it.
You mean democratic governments that often were in bed with communists or were communists all but in name and so on.
No if for example Cuba has Soviet nuclear missiles based on their territory that is a threat to the United States and they’re perfectly justified in getting those nukes removed.
Yet we can line their border with military bases, star wars and missile launch camps. Do they have the right to remove those? Would Russia be justified in attacking us? How about China?
I agree. Now how does that justify overthrowing democratic governments? A left leaning government in Latin America is not the same thing as a nuclear weapon near Florida.
They could transform into Soviet puppets.
The U.S. being as wonderful as it is, perhaps diplomatic intervention could have been attempted rather than a proxy war. But again, you’re demonstrating that your real position is “we support democracy as long as it doesn’t get in our war or cost us anything.”
And if diplomatic intervention didn’t work…?
There still wouldn’t be cause for an invasion. But if you are supporting invasions of democratically elected leftists because they might have become aligned with the Soviet Union at some future date, it shows how committed to democracy you are.
