Katamari Damacy. Help me.

I can’t stop playing. I made myself turn it off last night so I could get some sleep.

The graphics are bizarre, the game play is oddly engaging and the dialogue is hilarious.

Between this and Fable, I never get anything else done.

I know what you mean. It’s incredibly, terribly addictive.

Sending things to FilmGeek… Objects… Maps… Hopes… Dreams…

You mean you actually managed to find a copy? Lucky you!

EB Games website.

Ordered on Tuesday, confirmed in on Thursday, came yesterday. With a weekend and Columbus day, that’s not too shabby.

I was playing it again just last night. Great game.

I got the Japanese version last spring and spent a week or so trying to convince my boss to pick it up for U.S. distribution. (I work for Sony America.) Fortunately Namco went ahead and did it themselves.

Everyone must go out and buy it so it becomes a huge hit and I can tell my boss “I told you so!”

You heard me! Go down to the store right now and buy it!

I got mine from ebgames.com too. It’s just awesome. I actually don’t like the gameplay that much, I have to say, as it gets really tedious and I never get a real sense of accomplishment from any of it. But still the game is just brilliant. I realized that the first time the square-headed little girl started getting sparks all around her and said, “I… I can feel it. I can feel the cosmos all around me.”

Plus, of course, the loopy and fey King of All Cosmos, who talks in record scratching. Genius!

I would’ve been happy just to buy it and never play it, just to say, “What you did is good, and I support that.”

This game is the exemplar of the reason I bought a PS2 instead of an X-Box last year. My logic was as such: The X-Box is a slightly better box. It’s got better graphics. It’s newer. But anything that comes out for it will hit the PS2 or PC eventually. The only game I would have bought an X-Box for (KOTOR) did. The Gamecube is good. The games will be outstanding. But it won’t have the diversity. The PS2, however, will have everything, in time, except Mario. (It is getting Viewtiful Joe, though). And it will hve weird-ass japanese stuff that you’ll never see anywhere else.

This game is the true weird-ass japanese stuff. It rocketh.

Even if the gameplay was utter crap, the game is worth the $20 for the music.

Fortunately the gameplay is amazing and unique. If anything can be called a 21st century Pac-Man (in terms of gameplay style and addictiveness), this would be it.

I bought an XBox shortly after it came out after many hours of research into which was better for what I wanted to play. I got a PS2 a year later, or so, as the games got better.

I just got a gamecube a month ago and it’s not even plugged in right now.

Magandang tanghali po!

Typed from memory. Next time I’m in the Philippines, I’m set.

(For those who don’t know, another charming feature of Katamari Damacy is that The King teaches “greeting phrases” from a few different countries.)

I love this game. Rented it, then bought it as soon as it was available here. I was about to start my own thread when I discovered this one.

So, a question: which song is your favorite? I love the rap song that goes “check it up funk it up.” Ever since I found the lyrics, I’ve been rapping it in the shower.

I have so far managed to avoid serious adiction, but that is just because Samurai Warrior XL came out just in time. I wonder what it would be like playing katamari Damacy whilst tripping on acid? (Not that I would advocate anyone tripping on Acid)

I’m not much of a gamer, but I’m sorely tempted to buy a PS2 just so I can play this game.

This game is insanely good. Has anyone tried the 2-player mode? If your katamari ball gets big enough, you can roll up your opponent!

I was talking to my friends about having a Katamari tournament. We’d all bring a random item, moosh them up together in one ball, and give that out as a grand prize.

As for me personally, 3D games sometimes get me motion-sick and that’s the primary reason I can’t get thru Make-A-Star #7.

Na na na na na na na na na na na na na na na… chuggachuggachuggachugga…

My favorite song has to be Que Sera Sera. I don’t usually go for that kind of music, but there’s just something about it. A close second is A Red Rose and a Gin Tonic.

While I haven’t been singing any of the music; I was in Vegas recently, up in the Stratosphere. From way up there, I couldn’t help but imagine myself rolling up all of Las Vegas.

I got this game, played it a little bit. Cool game, fully enjoyed it, but it had a really high “Man, those crazy Japanese people!” factor. Beat it that night, so I wasn’t hugely motivated to play it the next day. Instead, I popped in my DVD of Yellow Submarine.

And all of a sudden, I totally understood Japanese culture. There’s nothing in Katamari Damacy that’s any wierder than a Blue Meanie, when you get right down to it. It’s just good old-fashioned psychedelia.

I loooove this game. My brother works at EB and got me a copy for my birthday. I was hooked as soon as I made my first star. It’s got to be the most insane, funny game I ever played. No drugs involved in the concept of this game. Noooooone at all.

BTW, when I was playing a level that had the “check it up funk it up” song in it, Mr. AFG was watching and thought the line was, “Take a dump, a funky dump”.

Sigh, I had to bump this thread because I just bought the game a couple days ago and if it weren’t for work, I’d still be in my PJs playing this thing.

I’m a bit curious as to how many stars there are to make?

Also, it looks like there’s gonna be a sequel. Here’s a link to some screenshots too.

I love that game!!! Harborwolf and I got it a few months ago, and became mildly obsessed with it. We played it with my cousin, and she bought a copy a few days later. Great game. I like all the songs, but I can’t specify any of them because I don’t know the names.
Our 8-year-old daughter likes to play it too. The Virgo stage is her favorite. She laughs like crazy when the ladies scream as you pick them up.

Alias: Once you play through all the levels including “Make the Moon”, the soundtrack becomes available, titles and all. You just have to go to the Moon on the Planet Select screen (you know, where you pick Homeworld or Earth or the multiplayer planet).

The soundtrack is also available on CD. Not sure if it’s import-only or not.

St Pauler, there’s nine stars and the moon to make, plus the constellations.

The game ended sooner than I expected, but I’m going back and trying to do beter and to unlock the eternal mode. I’d be happy just to ramble about the place.

The gameplay’s pretty simple once you get it, and I was kind of disappointed when I realized that the same area is used for each start, but it’s still seriously addicting. I close my eyes at night and see that little guy rolling the ball, rolling the ball. Haven’t had that happen since the days of my Doom addiction.
