I thought it was due in July. I’ll pick July 15, my grandmother’s birthday (she’d turn 108 this year if she were still alive). And also in honor of my grandmother, I’ll call it a girl.

Your grandmother and mine must have been very close in age. My grandmother died last November, less than a month before her 108th birthday.

July 15, 1905. But she died in 1995 at age 89, just a few months shy of 90.

Haha, that is an accurate enough name for them. They go stomping noisily around here in Glasgow too - a right old pain.

As for baby names, I’ve just thought. The kid should be called “Catherine” because then it would be great fun watching the tabloid trash writers trying to get the two different spelling correct. Ooh yes!

OK, baby names. Let’s figure four Christian names, like Wills and Harry have.There are no Georges in the present Royal Fam, except for Charles Philip Arthur George. Maybe they’re saving it.

It seems likely that a firstborn son would share at least one Christian name with his grandfather, and George is the patron saint of England, after all. But what if Wills and Kate have a girl?

If the baby is a girl, my money would be on Victoria - supposedly, that and Elizabeth were the frontrunners had William been a girl. (Also supposedly, the reason neither of Andrew’s daughters were named Victoria or Elizabeth was because they were “reserved” for Charles and Diana’s children.)

I don’t know, but way back when I first heard the name I wondered the same thing. My mother’s favorite movie is GWTW, and I’ve seen it several times and read the book. I can remember the scene when Mammie mentions the child has the name of two queens.

But there were other family members with the same names. I think it was a granddaughter of Queen Victoria who was Victoria Eugenie, who married into the royal family of Spain, where some things are named for her.

And the names close the loop, because María Eugenia Palafox Portocarrero y Kirkpatrick*, aka Eugenia de Montijo, aka Empress Eugenie, was from Spain (Granada specifically).
