Katharine Hepburn Estate-Sale Catalog (no calla lilies?)

A friend sent me this link to the Sotheby’s catalog of Katharine Hepburn’s upcoming estate sale. I’m not going to the viewing—the lines’ll be around the block.

Some interesting browsing: surprisingly glamorous clothes, amazingly under-valued furniture, and some of her own paintings, which prove it’s a good thing she kept her day job.

So what item do you really want to buy.

I read about her address book. That would be cool.

I love this 18th-c. secretary, this evening gown (umm, do you have it in a 12?), and this is a lovely photo of her. Love this desk, too, if I missed out on the secretary . . .

I think it would be really cool to own something of hers, no matter how inexpensive.

What’s with the furniture valuation? It’s priced like it didn’t belong to a famous person. Maybe it’s the junk from the attic or something.

The passports are really cool. But it’s kind of sad to break up stuff that been collected and kept together since the 20’s. Didn’t she throw anything away? She had her AAA card from 1934!

What size do you think she was? I’d guess she was rather tall, so I’d figure her for an 8 in today’s sizing.

Auction houses post the lowest-expectation bids; it’s not unusual for things to being in ten times the estimated price.

Kate was all skin and bones (though what’s there was “cherce”), there is no way I could squeeze into her frocks.

I’m guessing 5’8" and 120-ish.

[Comic Book Guy]Because of my unique body type, I had pregnancy panels installed.[/CBG]

120 soaking wet with bricks in her pockets.

I’ll bet she much closer to 100 or maybe even less.
Hummm… There has got to be some place on the web where we could find out how much she weighed.

According to her 1977 driver’s license, she was 5’7" and weighed 130. But, then again, everyone lies on their driver’s license.

If she lied to add 10 - 30 pounds on her license, she’d be even more unique than we thought.

Her 1933 DL lists her at 110.

She lied about her age on the license - it has a birthdate of 11-8-09, but she was born on May 12, 1907, according to this birth announcement.

She was pretty unique. I wouldn’t put it past her to add the weight just to throw nosy people off.

This is what I want. They got her name wrong it.

I remember that! “I’ve lost my sheep, rally I have.” What was that cartoon where they had a Katharine Hepburn chicken going, “I do so want to be an actress, rally I do?”

It was Warner Brothers / Looney Tunes I believe. Babs Bunny does a great Hepburn these days and she nicked it straight from the old cartoon.

Tell ya what, she lived in Old Saybrook, near Clinton…meet me up there and we’ll go to her Garage Sale.

See there are good points to living in CT…

As per the OP - I’d love some of that stationary for my wife…she’s into loves things that are lovely.

Is there a Kate movie where she says ‘rhally I do’? It’s such a famous line but what movie is that from?

Morning Glory. “I do so want to be an actress, rally I do.” It’s like she’s doing a bad Katharine Hepburn imitation. And she won her first Oscar for it!!
