Katrina: Any news on NO or MS library / school damage?

I haven’t heard one word about any library being affected or destroyed…I know books are not paramount right now, but really, not having the Gateway to the World available to me at anytime makes the world a colder, sadder, lonlier place.

I’m worried about museums and historical societies, too, which New Orleans is teeming with. Yes, yes, yes, of course the loss of life and livelihood is more important (I have friends in New Orleans I’m worried about), but we can also be saddened by the loss of such cultural treasures as the architecture, books, paintings, documents, etc.

I think it will be weeks, though, before we get any estimates of the property damage.

Any libraries in NOLA or the other floodplains are toast. I’m on the discussion board for library disaster recovery and will let you know later any stats that come through. (At least they’re probably the one place safe from the Plasma TV looters.)

Let us ( me) know of what will be done or needed in the future for the libraries, Sampiro. My funds are meager, but libraries and museums are what keep us seperated from the animals.
