Kayak happiness and an odd question

FINALLY! I have bought a kayak and went for my first paddle yesterday. It makes me feel like a really, really happy kid on an adventure

I paddled about five miles on the D & R Canal (adjacent to the Delaware River) and am going to try a very sedate stretch of the Delware this week. I used to go ocean kayaking on the West Coast, but haven’t been in a kayak for five or six years.

I did have a little mishap, though, and maybe someone can suggest a cleaning product. I went under a bridge and some creosote (the stuff that railroad ties and other exposed wood is soaked in) dripped on my brand new lifejacket :frowning: It’s nasty stuff: some rubbed on my arm and I have a little chemical burn.

Any ideas on how to get this yicky, oily stuff off my slick-y jacket? I’ve thought of WD-40, nail polish remover, or even gas, but I don’t want to hurt my jacket.

Depends what the jacket is made out of - any acrylic based product could melt if you use the wrong nail polish remover (check the label for acrylic use).

A OTC spot remover might be your best bet. Again, check carefully for what it removes and fabrics it may damage.

Five miles on your first trip! How’re your shoulder muscles? Well done.

Thanks, Maggenpye, I’ll do a little test spot.

I’m actually (and remarkably) not sore at all!
