Pregnancy for women in 50s safe

So, when she’s 68, they’ll be brand new teenagers.
She’ll be almost 80 before they graduate from college.

It just doesn’t seem right.

My mum was 46 when she had me, and even though women in their 40s and 50s are much “younger” than they were in the 1960s and 1970s, I can remember just how often I longed for younger parents.

My own parents were the same age as the grandparents of my friends (in fact, I have a niece who is only 6 months younger than myself). I remember the social isolation that brought with it when I was growing up.

And I can tell you what it’s like right now not having parents around (both of my parents died almost 20 years ago) to discuss life with and to grandparent my children.

There are many things we can do with modern medical technology - that doesn’t always mean we should.
