One of the things that I have seen in the past elections is that, as the election progresses and the votes start to mass, eventually someone in the news calls the election. I know that a certain point in time comes along where it is mathematically impossible for some candidates to win an election. But, I think the news is calling the elections too early. I think that people can influence the elections, with their votes, even in the last hour of the election, even in the last minute.
So, I want people to Keep Voting.
And, while I want everyone to vote, I am looking at the west coast while I am saying this. The east coast votes are counted first, then the central time zone, then the mountain time zone, and finally the west coast votes are counted. So west coast keep voting please, even if your candidate is not winning, even if you think all is lost.
The world spins the way it does, and we will get through this election and whoever wins it.

Voting is good. Democracy is good. Your one tiny vote matters, even if you’re pretty sure the vast majority of people in your city, state or country will vote otherwise.
No single snowflake is an avalanche.
I agree with the sentiment. I think it might be a good idea to have a news embargo on election results coverage until polls close in Hawaii.
However, this year I don’t think it will be as much of an issue. With Covid-19, a huge percentage of the votes are going to be mail in which will take a long time to tabulate. So its unlikely that a final prediction will be made until a few days after the election.
For the past couple of decades the networks and cable news normally make it a point not to call a state’s outcome until the official closing time of the polling stations.
Calling the election early therefore can only apply to the Presidential election. That hasn’t been an issue in more recent elections, because the winner was not known until all stations were closed. As said, it probably won’t happen this year either because of the huge number of mailed-in ballots.
You can see when the polls close in each state on 270toWin.
Or, as Pete Seeger puts it,
Drops of water turn a mill
Singly none, singly none
Never give up.
This time around I want to see the dems win in a landslide so there is no repeat of teh Supremes stepping in or any doubt in the general public’s mind that “it’s so close and there could have been massive voter fraud.”
That’s what I wanna see
Never give up, never surrender!
Seriously folks, the GOP is gonna pull so many dirty tricks and cheats out of it’s ass that not even a 20 pt lead in the poll sis secure.
There’s been talk that in 1980 calling the race for Reagan early caused west coast voters to go home.
I’d have to go back and watch the coverage again, but I’m pretty sure Reagan had it won even if he had lost the Pacific time zone states and AK/HI.
I’m not sure how much that really applies nowadays. The last time the Dems came close to losing CA/OR/WA was when there was a chance Nader could play spoiler in OR or WA in 2000.
There’s always local races and a potentially very tight senate race in Alaska this go round.
