Tomorrow is my husband’s disability hearing date. We have spent the last two years battling with Social Security Disability, and we are fianlly getting our hearing. My husband has congestive heart failure, permanently correctible only by heart transplant. He takes numerous maintainence medications. The powers that be turned him down flat. I know several of you are from Texas, and maybe have been hearing about the investigations that are beginning against Social Security. The national average for rejection of benefits is about 30 per cent. The average for Texas is about 35 per cent. The average for Houston is a whopping 43 per cent! And Houston has the longest wait for hearings.
Anyway, cross your fingers for us. We’re hoping this adverse publicity they’ve been having will affect us in a positive way, and they won’t reject his benefits. We sure could use the money.
It’s a friggin’ miracle! It looks like he’s going to be approved! The Social Security people had one witness, a doctor. He looked through Mr. Claiborne’s medical records and proclaimed him disabled and unable to work. The judge didn’t make a pronouncement that he had been approved, however. That would be just too damn efficient, now wouldn’t it? But our lawyer said it “looks very good.” So after the judge sends his paperwork in to the SS, then they fill out some more paperwork, then some is sent to us, and back and forth and to and fro, some three months from now we might see some money.
Can I get a hallelujah?! This really is going to help us so much. Living on one income is tough sometimes.
I read this thread this morning, and for some reason I couldn’t post. But I said a prayer for you, and since it is not yet a sure thing, I will keep on sending you prayers and positive thoughts.
Take care…I hope very much that things work out in the best possible manner!
