Ken Taylor, former Can. Ambassador To Iran, has died.

His (somewhat factionalized) story was covered in the movie Argo. He was a good man and a great Ambassador and was crushed when Harper closed the embassy there, felt it was a really grave error.

He made us all proud. (Not flag waiving, “Ain’t we all that!”, proud. ) A quieter more dignified if understated, Canadian kind of proud.

All America is grateful.

Today was his funeral.

I don’t think America sent even one official. (Unless I’ve missed something in my research?)

Because that is just a tiny bit sad, to me.

I drove past the church this afternoon during the service, so I didn’t see anyone famous. There was a collection of RCMP and other police and their horses for the honour guard.

Kathleen Wynne was there, as was Joe Clark.

But really, our American cousins couldn’t scare up a diplomat, envoy, an attaché…someone?

Not surprised, just not that impressed is all. I mean they made a movie you’d think someone would care. They profited off the story, after all.

Well that’s just sad if true.

According to the New York Times, the US Ambassador to Canada was present. Still a poor showing.

Hmm, the article I read quoted comments he made, but did not mention he was present.
