I know a lot of readers on this board hold Kent Haruf’s writing in high esteem, so I didn’t want it to go un-noted that he passed away over the weekend. He had cancer; at a book signing for *Benediction *at Denver’s Tattered Cover in March this year, he didn’t look very well but I’d hoped for the best. NPR had a nice remembrance today (two-click link to an audio file).
I’m one of the aforementioned readers on this board who like his writing; Plainsong, *Eventide *and *Benediction *are each extraordinarily accurate portrayals of the people and places of eastern Colorado. I’m happy he’s no longer in pain; I’m sorry that, other than a book set for a 2015 release, we’ll have no more books from him. Thanks, Kent.
