Kerasotes Theaters vs. GKC Theaters

I’ve read in a couple places that GKC Theaters has decided not to show Fahrenheit 9/11. One of those places was a Reuters story on Yahoo! The articles I’ve read quotes GKC Theaters president Beth Kerasotes. I also know that George Kerasotes is the founder of GKC.

My question is, is GKC Theaters related in any way to Kerasotes Theaters (operators of, mainly, theaters with “Showplace” in the name)? I know for a fact that theaters operated by Kerasotes Theaters (rather than GKC) are showing the movie. I’m wondering if one of these companies split off from the other at some point, or if GKC is a subsidiary of Kerasotes Theaters (or vice versa), or if it’s just a huge coincidence that there are two Illinois-based theater companies founded by members of the Kerasotes family.

Also, not for nothing, but GKC Theaters website (www.gkctheaters.com) shows that one of their theaters, Horizon Cinemas in Traverse City, Michigan, is, in fact, showing the film.

I did manage to find this by googling which seems to show that Gus Kerasotes (father of George) started the Kerasotes theaters, which George ran until 1985 before branching out into his own theater business. I worked for a chain that was bought out by GKC in the early 1990s and I vaguely remember that there was some family feud between George and his brother which caused the split. While the chains are the same family, they are not related as businesses. (Like I said, that’s just going from memory.)
