Kerry Credibility Problem?

Thanks, Sam, for the complete cite-free accounting of the campaign this week. I’m glad there is someone here to give us the rundown of how the RNC sees the campaign shaping up.

I’ll personally defend your rights as a Canadian to weigh in on American politics (perhaps since I am a dual citizen myself) but I do think you at least ought to tell us where you are getting all your facts and analysis from.

No, you were *first * supposed to be impressed with the affair with the intern that didn’t happen. That would have made the rest of the (scheduled?) series of lies more credible, until they built up to a Clintonian critical mass that the uncritical could point to and say “Look at everything he’s been accused of! What a slimeball!”. Hey, that strategy’s worked before, and even on a number of Dopers.
Quick clarification: Foreign viewpoints are most certainly welcome here. Thoughtful viewpoints are more welcome than partisan bashing (except the humorous ones), from anyone on any subect. Simple paraphrases of Fox News “commentary” does not qualify under either category, unfortunately, and cannot be defended on either basis.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions, of course. They’re like assholes; everybody has one. But no one is entitled to credibility or respect - those must be earned.

How about a little humor to lighten up everyone’s spirits?

Bush/Kerry Debate 2

BUSH: Joe Six Pack, NASCAR enthusiast
KERRY: Jo’ Mamma, truck stop crack whore

I agree:

“My administration has been calling upon all the leaders in the - in the Middle East to do everything they can to stop the violence, to tell the different parties involved that peace will never happen.”
-Crawford, Texas, Aug, 13, 2001

“It’s going to be very important for the Iraqi authorities to reach out to those people and talk about a system that guarantees minority rights, and a system which says that for some the future is bright.”
-Washington, D.C., Dec. 15, 2003

“This administration is doing everything we can to end the stalemate in an efficient way. We’re making the right decisions to bring the solution to an end.”
-Washington, D.C., April 10, 2001

They want the federal government controlling Social Security like it’s some kind of federal program."
St. Charles, Mo., Nov. 2, 2000

Couldn’t agree more:

“Do you have blacks, too?”
-To Brazilian President Fernando Cardoso, Washington, D.C., Nov. 8, 2001

“It’s very interesting when you think about it, the slaves who left here to go to America, because of their steadfast and their religion and their belief in freedom, helped change America.”
-Dakar, Senegal, July 8, 2003

“My answer is bring them on.”
-On Iraqi militants attacking U.S. forces, July 3, 2003

“All in all, it’s been a fabulous year for Laura and me.”
-December 21, 2001 (3 months after the September 11th attacks)

“We’ve got a cultural issue in America. We’ve got to change the whole way the issue is looked at. That’s the mission. Some in the political process don’t have enough patience for that, and I probably don’t either.”
-Unaware that a press microphone was on, while telling Roman Catholic “faith-based” subsidy supporters that his scheme to give tax money to religious groups will help them promote opposition to legal abortion, at the White House on January 31, 2001

One more quote to chew on:

"Most people prefer to believe their leaders are just and fair even in the face of evidence to the contrary, because once a citizen acknowledges that the government under which they live is lying and corrupt, the citizen has to choose what he or she will do about it.

To choose to do nothing is to surrender one’s self-image of standing for principles. Most people do not have the courage to face that choice.

Hence, most propaganda is not designed to fool the critical thinker but only to give moral cowards an excuse not to think at all."
