See my post $229. His staff said it was supposed to be delivered as said, but with this puchline added: “Just ask George Bush”.
Oops. “Just as President Bush.”
There is nothing Kerry could say that would be more insulting to our troops than the lies that continue to pour out of the whitehouse while people are dieing daily for those very lies.
Bush and his corrupt gang should be dragged from the Whitehouse and dragged behind the presidential limo down PA Ave. for their crimes.
If Kerry and the Dems need to apologize for something it should be for lacking the courage to really take a stand against these moral criminals.
What new information did Kerry have between yesterday and this morning, and between this morning and this afternoon?
The man is like Alice in Wonderland, only he changes his mind six times before breakfast.
What did Kerry change his mind about?
That people in his party needed him to apologize, without conditions, pronto.
This is incorrect. The intended line was as I stated above.
He didn’t say anything about the troops. This is a totally bogus issue and Kerry had nothing to apologize for.
First he wouldn’t apologize, then he tried the “I was only joking” defense popular with 10-12 year old boys everywhere, and then he apologized to any “service member, family member, or American” who was offended.
That’s at least two changes of mind, right there, in a short period of time.
IF I was Kerry this is the apology I would have issued:
To all our proud service men and women, their families and supporters and all who feel upset about the reporting of comments I made during a recent speech, I would like to issue a heartfelt and unreserved apology that the media is trying to twist my words to cause affront. I apologise that my comments have been taken out of context - I love our military dearly, and as an ex-serviceman will never insult the intellect, bravery or honesty of our forces. OUr forces are the best trained, most effective and have the highest level of education of any in the world.
I made a poorly worded allusion to President Bush not doing his homework, and not listening to experts, thereby getting us stuck in this Iraqi quagmire which has since been twisted as a slight on our troops - all I can say on this matter is that it is a case of the media and Bush supporters twisting my words to confirm their own perceptions.
Um…no…that’s maybe one at the most. He said he wasn’t going to apologize for criticizing Bush and he didn’t. Then under pressure from the Dems he apologized to the troops for unintentionally giving any of them a wrong impression (which he didn’t, the media did). You can hang on to that as some sort of victory I suppose, but really a political flip-flop is better exemplified by something like Bush suddenly claiming he’s never said “Stay the course.”
your characterization the he trie an “I was only joking” defense is a patent distortion, by the way. He didn’t say anything about the troops. Period. And Bush knows he didn’t and McCain knows it and Hillary knows it and Harold Ford knows it and Fox News knows it and you know it. I don’t believe a single person was sincerely offended.
Actually, some of them seem to have a sense of humor about it. ABCNews.com has a photo of troops (presumadely in Iraq) holding up a banner that reads:
“Halp us Jon Carry we R stuck hear N Irak” Currently photo #1 in headline news box.
I can’t find a site yet hosting just the image, and I’m sure that ABCNews will rotate out of the current series of photos in a bit… so hurry and looksee. I was amused.
That photo only makes it look like they ARE morons. Not because of the misspellings but because they would be stupid enough to think that Kerry was talking about the troops.
My guiess is that they’ve just been given a highly distorted and edited version of the facts.
Not a single person? Really?
Anyway, it doesn’t matter what Bush, McCain, Hilary, Ford, Fox News, or what you or I know. It only matters what the voters have to say on Tuesday. We’ll see how that goes, one way or another.
Jeepers, dude.
Um, what is highly distorted and edited about the DIRECT QUOTE:
“You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.”
Well, the options are ignorance of the facts, deliberate dishonesty, cynical political pandering or…no, that’s about it.
Do you really think the voters are going to base their decision on this? You righties are so cute when you’re desperate.
Uhmm…what’s highly distorted is giving the quote without giving the context. This was not advice given to a student, but a comment made in the middle of an anti Bush tirade. (if that is not too strong)
Carol Stream - would you euthanise a dog that was suffering from painful cancerous tumours? And if so, would it then be fair to say that you “kill your pets”? …accurate - sure, a fair reflection of the circumstances - NO WAY
The context is edited out, for one thing, the explanation for another. Also, no intelligent person could possibly honsetly believe that Kerry would call the troops stupid, considering that he is a.) a decorated combat veteran and b.0 highly educated.
You don’t really believe he intended to insult the troops, admit it. You’re all just hoping that some voters will.
I would suggest all those people that have an issue with his botched joke not vote for him, but he’s not running for anything.
Did anyone see Tony Snowjob in that press conference today pretending that he couldn’t understand where the word “us” would go in that sentence. He was acting all confused and saying"You US get stuck in Iraq? That doesn’t make sense." Who the hell did he think he was kidding? What a thundering tool that guy is.
