Wet coffee grounds.
The waste is kind of obnoxious, but considering we do stuff like literally burn non-renewable resources by the gallon just to get to work I think it’s more displeasing on an aesthetic scale than actually significantly harmful.

For certain values of “ground coffee.” The plain coffees are pretty much just that, yes. The flavored coffees contain a high percentage of what most of us would call “instant”; there are grounds, but a good portion is “added dissovables” that boost the coffee taste and add the flavoring.
I think there are some cheaper pods that are all but instant as well.
It seems to me any argument one could make on either side about the Keurig also applies to Nespresso and other similar systems. Keurig is just the one that took off.
No the Nespresso makes espresso and quite well. You can’t say someone’s settling for a so-so coffee. Most espresso systems also only make 1 or 2 cups at a time and real espresso machines are at least as expensive. A stove top espresso kettle works but I would say it’s inferior to a real machine.
I’d never heard of it before this thread so it’s possible it success hasn’t transcended North America for whatever reason.
So we are having Great Debates about coffee makers now?
The thread sure drifted that way.
