Stephanie Kwolek, who recently dies in a hospice.
She invented it while working for DuPont 50 years ago. Had been trying to find a substance that could reincore car tires.
RIP, Stephanie.

she saved many lives. may her memory be eternal.
The inventor of kevlar lived to 90?!
Clearly not invented by a man, as 5 minutes after the weave was complete, it would have been all “hey ya’ll, watch this” and “hold my beer,” etc.
:dubious:
Gratuitous sexist joke in unrelated thread is gratuitous, sexist, and unrelated?
Although that does remind me of what happens, a lot, over in Cambodia. Some clown will get himself a magic tattoo that will make him impervious to bullets, or buy a Buddhist amulet that supposedly has the same properties, and get a buddy to shoot him to test it out. Really. A poor man’s Kevlar indeed.
(You see these bullet-defying tattoos and amulets in Thailand too, but it always seems to be in Cambodia that some knucklehead really does put it to the test.)
