Keyboard for a Mac

Heh, and all this time I’ve been wondering what happened to the closed Apple. I guess I should stop calling the PowerBook’s CDmajig the 51/4" drive? The router the acoustic modem? Bah, next you’ll be telling me my horseless carriage is old fashioned!

I was very surprised to find the volume mute, play/pause and |<< / >>| track keys work perfectly well on a generic Dell keyboard. No drivers - just plugged it in.

However, the volume knob and web browser buttons do nothing.

That’s what you think. Two floors down there’s this person who keeps bringing their computer back to the store, angrily complaining that the volume changes randomly and their browser acts erratically and if only the techs would do their job, his computer would be fixed. The techs, meanwhile, clearly find nothing wrong and never see the symptoms. Being a national chain, they don’t have the authority to outright refuse to see the customer, so they have to take turns with cranky-crazy-volume guy.

Fortunately, the man will get so overly angry about it he will have (what he thinks is) a heart attack–but it’s just severe abdominal cramping. He and the intake nurse will have such a good laugh about it that they’ll go out for coffee, then lunch, then a date, and eventually get married. The last tech he was supposed to see will have traded his ‘turn’ to someone else for a lottery ticket, which will net him tens of millions of dollars (his good nature and fortune will lead him to splitting it with the other tech).
