keyboard q #2

the other day i posted a thread asking why there were little embossed lines on the ‘f’ and ‘j’ and ‘5’ keys. i was also going to ask another question relating to computer keyboards, however the very second i started to transcribe the question, i completely forgot what it was!! but now i remember…
why arent the letters on a keyboard arranged in alphabetical order? surely it would be much more helpful and much more logical!

It’s basically a holdover from early manual typewriters. Here is an interesting site.

The “QWERTY” keyboard is arranged as such based on the frequency of usage of each letter, and fingering (I believe).

Do a Google search on “QWERTY keyboard arrangement.” I’m too lazy.

hehe ty scott :stuck_out_tongue:

The reason for those little nubbins on the f, j, and 5 keys is so that you can position your hands in the standard home position on the keyboard without having to look at the keyboard. Touch typist find it useful.
