Kickstarter recommendations (also other crowdfunding sites)

I’ve got a project.

Sleep Study is a horror web series produced and shot in Chicago, told in a found-footage style. A lab assistant comes to realize that the program he’s working for is sinister, and not being brave enough to blow the whistle himself, instead leaks footage.

Each episode is interview tapes, surveillance footage, and other video that the protagonist lab assistant is leaking.

Professionally produced with Chicago-native actors and crew, part of a greater effort to promote healthier representation in film.

Kurt Vonnegut documentary file project:
In 1982, a young filmmaker wrote a letter to his literary idol, proposing a documentary on the author’s life and work. Kurt Vonnegut (then 60) soon met with Robert Weide (22) and authorized the production. Weide thought it would take a few months to raise the needed financing, and figured a film could be completed within the year. That was 33 years ago. … The odd part is that Weide is an accomplished documentary film maker. They have so far surpassed their funding target by 10%, a thinner cushion than I would like. But there’s usually a burst of support towards the end of most kickstarter projects. Three days to go.

PS: Just got my paperwallet in the mail yesterday. Nice!

A project by someone I’ve heard of: Mangaka: The Fast & Furious Game of Drawing Comics.

Jason Thompson is the author and editor of Manga: The Complete Guide. It’s a great reference and I’ve been following his writing career since. His twitter feed.
Mangaka is a drawing game, somewhat more involved that Pictionary. Thompson has been play-testing it since 2011. Though Pictionary is wildly popular drawing games are a hard sell, and improvisational storytelling is rare among boardgames, notwithstanding certain surrealist efforts. So I think it’s a good match for Kickstarter. Could be great! (Or less so!)

72% funded with 21 days to go: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/22092473/mangaka-the-fast-and-furious-game-of-drawing-comic?ref=users
