Pirate themed CT scanner at kids hospital.
Wonderful idea and I’m sure it helps keep the kids calm.
But what about us adults? CT and MRI scares us too. My dad would get panic attacks in that tube. They had to give him a sedative before the test. I get anxious too but deep breathing helps and I can stand it without a sedative. The MRI is the worst because of the noise and being confined.
I’ve often wondered why only the children’s wards are brightly painted and cheerful. Adult would do better too if they decorated the rooms with cheerful themes. It’s just paint and thats not expensive.
I would love the pirate theme CT/MRI. What other themes would work well for adults?
Superheros.
I would love a Batman or Wondsrwoman themd. Music videos would be nice too.
The Madonna Inn has a few rooms that might work.
They really went all out with that pirate theme CT scan. The 4th photo shows that even the table is painted like wood decking.
I bet the hospital staff enjoy working in that cheerful room.
Nice to see that GE “gets it” after all these years of making equipment that’s maybe not particularly frightening, but certainly boring and uninspiring.
I wanted to box the ears of the people on that site that were complaining about the cost for the decor. A vinyl “skin” for the equipment and some paint is going to be such a trivial cost of a CT suite, and now that GE has the pattern for the skin, the hard part is done - other hospitals can do up whatever design they want. In the near future, kids may be sliding into Iron Man’s arc reactor, or the Green Lantern, or whatever.
I’m just glad to see people are really working to take some of the fear out of being in a hospital, whether it’s fun decor, window washers dressed like superheroes, or the “vaults” to contain chemo drugs and IVs.
