[Ok, I did a search and found no recent threads in GQ (other threads dealt with diet and such).]
My question is: once diagnosed with a kidney stone–I’m talking about going to the ER (due to the extreme pain) and getting the CAT scan to eliminate an appendix problem-- how long does it take to pass a stone once it starts moving?
ER trip being day 1. It took me more than a month, my stone was about 5 mm in diameter.
ER Cat scan on day 1–they told me is was the size of a sand grain. On day 3, I had a X-ray and the radiologist said it was gone.
Day 14 after having problems (pain), a urologist looked at my day 3 X-ray and spotted the stone and told me the radiologist was an idiot for missing it. Once pointed out to me–even I could easily see it in the x-ray.
Urologist ordered a IVP (intravenous pyleogram?) which I had on day 34. Later that day, I passed the stone.
Being about 5 mm, and considering the month I had pain-- is it usual that the ER CAT scan and a radiologist would miss this?
Kidney stones can’t be that uncommon.
This thing was pure misery. I’m thinking that a stone this big is hard to miss.
But my question is: Doesn’t more than a month seem a little long to pass the stone?
It’s my first (and I say that because I understand once you get one, more might be in line down the road).
