Ok, I remember reading a series of YA books when I was a kid. The authors name was something LIKE “Atshelter”. They were stories about teenaged dudes in the time of Daniel Boone, with flintlocks, “fightin’ bears” etc.
But I can’t find them anywhere, and a Google search of that name doesn’t help, and even experts at kids books stores shake their heads.

It’s Joseph Altsheler. I’m familiar with his name because my dad remembers Riflemen of the Ohio (1910) fondly and has been trying to find a reasonably-priced edition – or, better yet, library copy, as he’s more interested in rereading the book than actually owning it – for the last twenty years.
Thanks dude! I went to both Amazon & eBay, and they have a few. A few have been re=printed, and some are now on CD-rom ( I think they are in the public domain). Old copies in decent shape are very expensive.
