That’s not what I’m saying–todays parents decry their kids not being able to play because of homework; nobody has ever LIKED home work but eventually knew it would help them later on. Granted I went to school at different era (60’s), but expectations then was play when at home from school.

You fail to recognize that there’s a finite amount of material to be covered in class, especially with different students ability to comprehend data presented. Homework allows students to understand lesson at their own pace, without any peer/time pressure, which helps them keep up

Yes, I went to school in a different era, too. The amount of homework my kids were given was on a whole other plane. I had plenty of homework, but I also had time for extracurriculars.
