Kim Possible: The Bitter End

I don’t know if there are enough fans of the show here for a meaniful discussion - it’s hard to tell since “kim” and “possible” are illegal search words - but Friday marked the end of the series in the form of the “movie”, Kim Possible: So The Drama. Yes, it is the series finale despite there being four new episodes to be aired (the movie was a way around the apparently standard “65 episodes. Period.” rule at Disney Channel) as the production numbers at TV Tome bear out.

I think that the movie did an excellent job of bringing this brilliant animated series to an end, as bitter a pill as that is for me to swallow. I loved the opening, with the James Bond references, as well as the fact that Draken had his most credible take-over-the-world plot. I really felt the conflict between Ron and Kim as Kim found herself drawn to Eric, and thus away from her friendship with Ron. I loved Ron and Draken’s confrontation at the end. And the final scene…was perfect.

I did think the movie had a few weak points, especially not following up on Dad Possible’s memory problems, but I still was glued from beginning to end.

I’ve been a fan of the show since I first saw it (I find it amusing that Netflix has the KP DVDs turn up as recommended features), lured by the fast-paced action, pleased by the fun dialog, highly amused by Ron & Rufus’ escapades alongside Kim, and, perhaps most importantly, the strong bond of friendship that appeared between the two of them. Now that my wife and I our about to have our own child, who will most likely be a girl, I also see the amazing impact Kim and Ron make as role models. They have a long-lasting, long-suffering, go-to-the-ends-of–the-Earth for each other friendship… and in the end, both might realize that the perfect SO might not be the hottie you’re crushing on, but your best friend.

In the end, maybe it was for the best that the show came to an end as it did: It certainly went out on a high note… which can’t be said for a lot of other great series. But I will miss it.

Wow, that MickeyNews article wasn’t biased at all  (not at you, but the article).

Regardless, even though I’ve never seen the show, nor do I care for most of Disney’s shows, I find little fault with the 65 episode rule. Not only, as you mentioned, did it allow the show to end on a high note, but without that rule, Kim Possible may have never even hit the air because of previous shows being extended, thus preventing new programs for growing.

That article just goes to show there’s no pleasing everyone. In the event that Kim Possible’s run had been extended several more years, I really wouldn’t have been surprised to have read read a future article by that same author detailing how Disney ran a good franchise into the ground by keeping it around so long (ala Simpsons, Fraiser, Friends, etc, etc).

I really enjoyed this show.
It’s the best non-Pixar thing to have the Disney label on it in years.

Will the series be out on DVD?

I love Rufus. I liked the Erik stuff, and I almost figured out who he was, but I was somewhat wrong. Good drama. So.

Apparently, the creators of the show weren’t too happy with the “65 shows” rule either… they snuck in a little dig at it in Ron’s bedroom. Pic at:

Hello Skott, pleased to meet you, I’m Scott. Just woundering, when might this repeat? (I have no interest in giving even the least amount of zip code to disney’s website, or to tvguide.com, which is why I am asking) Alos, can someone please post the details of the picture in a spoiler box? I link goes to a forum dicussion of it, but there is broken jpeg icon in place of the picture.
Thanks in advance,
Scott Plaid, casual
Kim Possible viewer.

The pic is a vid cap from the movie. It shows a wall in the background of Ron’s room with a bumpersticker on the wall that says, “NO ON 65”.

And the Compy just peed my carpet.

I mean, and now it turns out it has benn on for the past hour, and I am now watching the last half or so.

I’ve been a big fan of this show for a long time. Sad to see it go, but at least it’s ending strong (and with several full-length movies) rather than fading away into a sad, over-milked obscurity.

Have you been using the Internet irresponsibly?

Of course, besides the 65-episode thingy, being the cynic that I am, I also have to comment regarding modern Disney policy that they apparently own your soul for a year or two if you do a Disney Channel TV show for them. (I think this is called the Hilary Duff Clause.) How else can you explain the fact that the star of the Disney Channel TV show Phil of the Future made a guest appearance on a show featuring a main character voiced by the star of the Disney Channel TV show Even Stevens (who has also recorded songs for Walt Disney Records and starred on Broadway in the Disney musical Beauty and the Beast) with recurring voices by, among others, the star of the Disney Channel TV show That’s So Raven (who is also a recording artist)? What’s the sitch with that, Ms. Possible?

Okay, as a casual Kim viewer, I’ll end this unsual post with a question: Have Kim and Ron ever met their resident tech guru, Wade, in the flesh? Every time they’ve hoped to see him, they were disappointed to discover that he had other obligations and sent a robot in his place.

Sorry Skott, but Old Pappy TiVo doesn’t list any future showings of the film. But seeing as Disney Channel loves to show their original films over and over, I’m sure it’ll be on again. Resident Disney historian Jim Hill (who is also mourning the loss of the show) points out it’ll be on DVD May 10, with unseen scenes and a new episode of the series.

As I remember it, Nickelodeon used to have a similar rule. When one show became popular enough - that show was Rugrats - they broke their rule and brought it back, although I think it took a few years. So perhaps you fans over there have some reason for hope?

Although, in my opinion, they ran Rugrats into the ground by continually adding new characters and running the show for far longer than it should have. (I don’t mind the episodes with Dil, but by the time Kimi and Taffy were added, the show became a little repetitive.)

They are replaying it again tonight on the Disney channel at 11 PM EST. Not sure which Disney channel it is though since I have like 30 of them for some strange reason. My provider has it as DIS2 if that helps.

There’s a surpringly easy way around this: Don’t have your show air on Disney.

*Surprisngly

Probably true, since all that happened after I’d stopped paying attention. And now they’ve had two movies and the show is still on the air as a spinoff of itself. Way too much I’m sure, but they did bring it back.

No more irresponsibly than usual.

Yes. However, not in the present. In Sitch in Time, they found that in the future, everyone is buff, including formerly chubby tech genius pre-teen Wade.

I just caught the last half hour of this movie.

Let me just say: Awwwww…

You know, I think this is the only series finale to an animated series I’ve seen in a few years that had a really happy resolution.

Hi Scott, always great to meet another! According to my DVR, repeats are airing on Monday (4/11) at 2 and 4 pm on Toon Disney… and that’s all it lists for the next 1.5 weeks. But my DVR - and Toon Disney - has been known to make mistakes from time to time. It is supposed to come out on DVD with deleted scenes… but I’ll wait and see with that too.

Also, apparently members of another board have a chat discussions during new KP episodes, and the director and writers for the show joined them while KP:STD aired. According to them, the final scene had been planned since the beginning… and if it does well enough in the ratings, there may be possibilities for more KP movies. That’d be great… but I won’t hold my breath (I’m a Pretender fan and BTDT).

Draken: “This is not over! Oh, this can’t be over!”
