Kind of gross - you have been warned - sinus irrigation without a Neti pot

There is an existing thread on whether one should use sterile water in a Neti pot.

I don’t have a Neti, but I regularly do a quick nasal irrigation using tap water; I snort it up from my cupped hand and nasally expel it back into the sink.

I am not concerned about the sterility aspect of it, but I am curious if this process produces the same effect as using a Neti pot.

And if so, why bother with the pot?

Sorry for the visual.

I use a Neti squeeze bottle which gets the solution high into the nooks and crannies. You wouldn’t believe how much gunk comes out. Snorting from your hand is fine, but I don’t think it would reach as high and deep into the nasal passages.

Yeah, I thought of that. I may be getting some of the nooks but I’m very likely missing some crannies.

Well, that makes my english muffin seem less appetizing.

My gf had a long history of sinus headaches/problems. After hearing/reading about Neti Pots, I purchased one for her a few years ago. It made an incredible difference in her sinus health. I’ve never tried it (my sinuses are fine) and cannot imagine using it. It makes me gag even thinking about it.
