Kingdom Hearts for PS2: Fun to watch?

My wife and I like playing games. Usually, she watches while I play. Here is a list of games we have enjoyed, all of which are Action-Adventure:

**All Zelda’s(our favorite series probably)

Okami(better than Zelda perhaps)

Beyond Good and Evil(we loved it)

Starfox Adventures(childish, but cute)

The Prince of Persia “Sands of Time” trilogy(very, very fun to watch/play)

Lego Star Wars/Indiana Jones(we played these together)

Ico

Psychonauts**

And some I have forgotten, of course. My quesiton is about the Kingdom Hearts series. Are these action-adventure games, or do you spend a ton of time leveling up? My wife would not enjoy(nor would I) sitting there watching me fight battle after battle leveling up, like in Final Fantasy.

What is your opinion? Are there puzzles, like Zelda? Are their dungeons, so to speak?

It is an action RPG, not turn based. There are a lot of spawning shadow creatures to keep one busy with both fighting and magic spells. There are usually two other characters assisting the main character ala Tales of Symphonia.

If you like the Lego Star Wars (and I know you like Fina Fantasy) you should defintely buy it. If you’re hesitant, rent it first.

Here’s a link to a random youtube video of the combat. Kingdom Hearts: Shadow Sora battle

Like any RPG, it certainly helps to spend time levelling up. But unlike most Final Fantasies, the game is beatable without taking that extra time to grind. If you do spend some time doing that, it’s a little more fun to do/watch since you’re running around hitting things as opposed to repeatedly choosing menu selections.

It’s otherwise a fairly standard JRPG with minimal puzzle solving and mostly fighting enemies. You’ll spend most your time hitting things with a giant key, and you can also learn magic spells to use. The magic system takes a while to get used to to the point where you can use it quickly in battle, but it works.

The story may be another draw to sit and watch it be played. It’s even more nonsensical than a typical Final Fantasy plot, but you have the addition of Donald and Goofy there, and it just makes the whole thing seem amusingly absurd. Maybe that’s not what they were going for, but I enjoyed the unintentional hilarity.
