Kitchenaid Stand Mixer Attachments

I just got an excellent deal on a Kitchenaid Stand Mixer K45SS. I would like to know what attachments you have and where you bought them. I’m looking for the paddle and dough hook for now, but I’d like to know what you’ve got and where you got it.

And, if you’ve got some of the fancier attachments, how often do you use them?

I got a stand mixer for Christmas from my inlaws. It came with the whisk, flat beater, and dough hook. I’ve looked at the other attachments, but I don’t think I’d use them.

I’ve been baking twice a week since I got it. I think something in my brain has switched to Must Feed The World mode.

Yeah, I got mine for such a steal because it didn’t include the dough hook and paddle. Dammit.

I have no idea where I got them, but that information would be out of date anyway. Mine came with the whisk, paddle, and dough hook, and I use all of them regularly. I used the dough hook just today.

I’ve also got the shredder/slicer attachment. I only use the shredder if I need quantities of cheese (today, for example–it’s pizza night); I don’t believe that I’ve ever used the slicer part of it. I have the meat grinder too, and I don’t think I’ve touched that in five years, at least. I could do without that unless I get another deer that I decide to butcher myself.

When I bought the Artisan Mixer, I received a free slicer attachment with four blades. The mixer came with the whisk, paddle and dough hook. I love the mixer as it does a great job and is easy to use and clean.

If there were one attachment that I might consider it would be the ice cream maker, though at $70 my anticipated frequency of use wouldn’t justify the expense.

I got a stand mixer for our wedding, which I would run back into a flaming house to save. I have owned it for six months and am practically emotionally bonded to the thing ;). It’s fire-engine red.
It came with a whisk, a flat paddle, and a dough hook. I use all three fairly regularly, and all three are priceless in my kitchen. Not having to knead pizza dough for half an hour is quite a thing. Whisking meringue or making whipped cream takes seconds.
We also got an ice cream freezer attachment in a gift bought from Amazon.com, and we have used it way more often than is remotely good for my waistline. I may never buy ice cream again. Coconut sorbet is orgasmic.
The only other thing I’d like to have is the pasta roller. I’d love to be able to make home made spinach fettucini. Yum!

Yeah, if my house burned down, I would be trying to carry my mixer (who is named Matilda), my Cuisinart, and both cats.

Besides the hook, ans whisk, I have a 3 quart bowl, juicer, pouring shield, pasta maker, and food grinder combo. All of the mixer accessories can be viewed here

I have the juicer and use it quite a bit, I have a lot of other stuff I never use (in fact if I’m just mixing I use a hand mixer, but the juicer is the shiznit).

I look to make Fresh Pasta with mine. I have the set of Roller’s Cutters and have made fresh pasta pretty regularly, I did not know there was a ice cream attachment/accesory, thanks for the link!

Buy an extra bowl. It is very useful if you want to mix 2 different things at the same time without transfering one out of the mixing bowl. Here are the other things I have…

Shredder - used for large quantities of cheese from Costco then frozen with FoodSaver. Not much otherwise. Maybe cole slaw? Never used the slicer.

Meat Grinder - Ever made your own sausage? Pretty good actually. We made Spanish Chorizo which was yummy, made from pork shoulder, not the pituitary glands and hearts which is in the store bought version! We also grind out own beef and pork and put it in 1/2lb FoodSaver bags. Much cheaper if bought in bulk and you know what you are getting in your burgers and tacos…

Pasta Roller - This is my MUST have. With the manual roller, I needed a partner to roll dough and change settings and make sure it feeds correctly…now I can do it myself, which is great. Makes quick work of it as well.

Pour Shield - I hate it. It is messy and doesn’t lock on properly. You can get really good at pouring things in without it.

The 3 basic tools-whisk, paddle, hook-are used regularly in my house.

A CAN OPENER?

$49.99 for a CAN OPENER?!

I loves me some Kitchenaid Stand Mixer, but that’s just silly.

I’ve got a K45 inherited from my grandmother. It came with dough hook (used weekly), paddle (used monthly) and the whisk (still unused by me.). I also have the slicer/grater attachment. I used it when I want latke, or hashbrowns. I could use it for slicing cheese, but I’ve found that the price of pre-shredded cheese is the same or less than the price of block cheese, so there’s no incentive there. I use the pouring shield. Less for worrying about things when I pour them in, than just to control the poofs of flour when I turn on the mixer when making up dough. I also have a Pyrex KithenAid bowl that is apparantly just the wrong shape for my mixer, so all I can use it for is a proofing bowl. But it is a nice proofing bowl.

I inherited mine from my grandmoter, too.

It’s a Mixmaster, though. Looks like this model, but with white bowls…

I’m SO getting the ravioli maker.

And then I will conduct experiments. First, we will try a filling of Gummi Bears. Then we will try whipped cream. Perhaps refried beans. The mind boggles.

We got the 5 quart fire engine red mixer for christmas. All the attachments are going on the wedding registry. Especially the pasta maker.

(Muttering to myself) I do not need the ice cream attachment. I do not need the ice cream attachment. I do not need any extra attachments, but especially not one that makes ice cream.

Fresh coconut sorbet. Chocolate chip cookie dough made with a sweetcream base, sweetened with brown sugar, and with chunks of homemade cookie dough. Fresh mint ice cream with crumbled Thin Mint Girl Scout cookies. Peanut butter ice cream with peanuts and chocolate chips.

Yes, I am eeeevil!!

HOW the hell does that work??!!?? I’m so curious!

I’ve considered the pasta attachment a few times, but it just looks so mickey mouse to me, compared to the trusty steel of my Atlas manual. If folks here are saying it works well, maybe I’ll give it another look…
