It’s been long enough, that I don’t mind seeing a different take on this story. I’m down. Of course, I don’t hold as much vitriol toward Keanu as most do. He’s good for those characters that call for a stoic, flat personality (such as this).
So from the trailer, the day in question won’t be an eerie, everything is off like a switch was thrown, but a CGI-fest of some sort. I can’t help but think the original was better for that.
Gort was going to be some kind of robot doggy thing. But they changed their mind and now he may be a more Gort-ish looking humanoid, especially judging by that last quick flash at the end of the trailer.
I’ll go ahead and say, then, that he plays a damn good emotionless rock in that preview. So if that’s what he’s supposed to be, then great. That blank stare was *menacing. *
Agreed. I’m not so sure about the remake in general or what they’re going to do to the plot, but if he’s supposed to seem alien, I think this is the part Keanu was born to play.
You guys are missing the important point - the walking hunk of male lovelinesss that is Keanu Reeves is going to be in a movie for us to watch.
I’m not as critical of his acting as others, either; I think he has made a stupendous career with what acting talent he has. He chooses roles wisely that don’t demand more than he can deliver, and as far as I’m concerned, does a fine job with them. I might be somewhat biased, however, since just staring at him on screen is almost enough for me.
I don’t get the hate for Keanu Reeves. Okay, I get most of the hate but here he’s been handed the mantle of Michael Rennie and it’s not like Rennie set a bar a toddler couldn’t toddle over. Gort was less wooden, being metallic and all.
Are you sure? I thought he peaked at Bill And Ted’s Excellent Adventure, and it’s been downhill since. Has he played a more animated character since then…besides Bob Arctor in ASD?
It’s just my opinion, of course. But I think he has steadily improved over time. From Private Idaho to Matrix to Constantine. Maybe not “animated” per se, but I just always seem to get from him that he cares about a role.
Really? I think Rennie has become even LESS animated since dying in 1971. However, it’s understandable why you are confused. His being three years dead did not prevent the producers of Churchill’s People from casting him.
