I get several klez virus emails daily. I was wondering if they only affect microsoft outlook or can you still get it if you use netscape? Also, if you don’t open any attachments, are you still vulnerable? You can’t get rid of an email in netscape without viewing it. I’ve searched google and can’t find the answers to these questions. I never use internet explorer or outlook, so am hoping my pc is not vulnerable. Is this correct???
Thanks!
I got infected by Klez.H.
At the time Norton didn’t stop it.
It came in with some malarky .doc from someone I have never heard of.
I use Netscape and relly suffered. It took 4 days to get everything back. This virus had placed 163 files on my HD. Don’t mess with it.
Outlook is just especially suspectible to viri but any mailreader that previews messages could be vulnerable so yes, Netscape could be a problem.
I’d prefer Outlook over Netscape for email because Outlook at least has options where you can setup filters and/or turn off previewing. Get spamkiller from www.spamkiller.com or use a mailreader that provides decent filtering like Eudora. spamkiller is not free but does have a trial period. It helps protect against viri by deleting suspect emails before they ever get downloaded to your client. There are many preset filters in place so it’s not much work for the end user. Or install linux and use a linux mail util to read your mail. That’s what I do most of the time.
or get a mac
