klingons and their head thingie question

A while back someone on the board mentioned that they were going to explain the Klingon head thingie (bumps) in an episode of Enterprise. Now I hear that this show is being cancelled.
I don’t actually watch tv so naturally I don’t follow the series at all, but I’ve always been curious about what the eventual explanation for the Klingon thing was going to be.
Has this been explained yet? If not, will they? If so, whats the gig?

Next Friday’s episode (“Affliction”) promises to answer your questions.

Not that I want the show to end but this episode is almost enough of a reason that I wish it had been canned and the last eight episodes left unaired. This is going to suck.

On the other hand, it will *really *piss off the hardcore TOS people so it’s not all bad.

Enterprise is being cancelled? Oh no!

I’ve heard that it has to do with

Klingons injecting themselves with Soong’s superhuman DNA

Brian

Haven’t the Kilingons already appeared in Enterprise with the head bumps?

All of them have been ridged in ENT. What this will explain is why they look like vaseline smeared Mongols in TOS but like turtleheads in the other four series.

I just wanted to weigh in and point out that a while back, I suggested that the reason given for the head-ridge changeover might well be what was in N9IWP’s spoiler box.

It’s a cheese grater.

Spoilering my reply…
I have never watched an entire episode of Enterprise, so forgive me if I’m confused. Soong? Has an ancestor of Dr. Soong (Data’s “father”) appeared on the show, or are you referencing Khan Noonian Singh, the “Super Man” of the classic episode Space Seed?

Incidentally, I understand the confusion. I always wondered why they named Data’s inventor so closely to Khan…
Arik Soong, Noonien Soong’s (great?) grandfather, had a three episode arc dedicated to him back during the November sweeps. He was a scientist working on Augments, genetically engineered humans that were (I assume) frozen during the Eugenics War and then thawed out in the 22nd Century. I’ve not seen the entire arc and it was when I was in the hospital so my memory of one of the episode’s is fuzzy anyway.

As for the similarity in names, there’s a (probably apocryphal) story that Gene had a friend during his days in the force named Noonien Soong/Singh or something like it and he wanted to get back in contact with him and that was his way of hopefully getting his attention but it supposedly didn’t work

Not at all apocryphal- I read this in what I thought was his authorized biography.

I think tho it was just another pilot he had known, not someone from his military days.

I’ll take your word for it as my knowledge of Roddenberry’s pretty piecemeal.

Wouldn’t that be because TOS had a much smaller budget fror makeup?

A friend if mine once met James Doohan at a con. When asked what he thought about TNG, he replied “What a budget!”.

I had to laugh at that description, but then I have to despair that Enterprise had to get in that dig before being cancelled

I really hate agreeing with you.

OK, for the last dang time:

All Klingons have two heads. One turtle, one smooth. They keep the unused one in a pickle jar, although they have to take it out and polish it on Fridays.

Eventually the turtle heads became so popular that they were worn exclusively. Not wanting it known that these testosterone poisoned tough guys are fashion hounds, they try to keep it a secret. Hence Worf’s “We do not speak of it.”

o/`Worf, son of Mog,
wearing a head that he keeps in a jar by the door…
what is it for?

All the macho Klingons,
where do they get their bumps?
All the macho Klingons,
who polishes their lumps? o/`

Klingon opera.
Invigorating!
