Knee surgery Monday

I’m getting arthroscopic surgery Monday to repair what may or may not be torn cartiledge. My symptoms lead doc to believe torn cartiledge, but MRI suggests there is no cartiledge there. I had ACL/MCL tear and complete reconstruction of the knee in 1987, and ‘wear and tear’ problems with the knee have finally become acute.

I guess it’s not really ‘big’ surgery, but I’ll be out for the procedure and the prognosis going in isn’t clear. I’m definitely a little apprehensive. Wish me luck!

Good luck! I had a complete reconstruction in 1999, and my dad had a scope procedure similar to what you’re talking about a year or two later. He was pretty nervous after seeing how long it took me to get back into shape, but he was up and walking around in no time.

You’ve already done the “big” one - this one should be a piece of cake!

Amazing what they can do by remote-control these days. OK, so it’s not as if they’re pressing buttons on the clicker, but anything where the access into the body is a half-inch long hole, it’s amazing.

I had my knee cartilage cleaned up by scope about 20 years ago and it was pretty simple outpatient work, despite the full anaesthesia, and not much recovery time. I can only assume they’ve gotten better at it in these 20 years.

Hey, what a fortuitous time to come across this story on Fark.

Brrrrraaaaaaaains!
ETA: And good luck on a speedy recovery. A buddy of mine had knee surgery and it’s made a huge difference in his general mobility. Hopefully, you’ll be running around again in no time. (Just make sure the hospital does you paperwork right!)

What, nobody was participating in Casual Friday?

D’Oh! I told the doc I’d sharpie a big X on the knee I wanted done. He chuckled and said he does that, and signs the leg before surgery. The guy that did my recon 20 years ago actually had a malpractice suit against him a few years after my surgery because he somehow operated on the wrong knee of a patient. It’s hard to imagine how that could happen. Everyone from my doc to the nurses asked me over and over which knee, sharpied a big X on it, etc.

Wierd.

I had emergency knee surgery almost one year ago exactly (December 4th- fell and tore all the ligaments away from my knee: but I digress)

But my experience was exactly like yours… I told my story, explained where the pain was, exactly which knee so on and so forth about a hundred times to various nurses, doctors, assistants, surgeons, passers by… what felt like everybody that worked in the hospital really. I can’t imagine how they could have possibly screwed it up and done the wrong knee.

That all said: good luck with the new surgery. I hope it goes well, and the recovery is quick.

Add me to the good luck wishers, please. May it all go smoothly.

Good luck! Its different but I had thyroid surgery a month ago, and I was nervous going in. It’ll be alright. My surgery went so quickly I honestly don’t remember much! You’ll be okay! best wishes.

Good luck! I had arthroscopic surgery on both knees when I was in high school. It will be over fast, and believe me, it won’t hurt nearly as bad as the pain that most likely prompted the surgery in the first place.

I wish you well, and a speedy recovery.

Good Luck. Follow doctors orders. Come back as soon as possible.

Good luck! Sending healing thoughts your way.
