I’ve noticed,as I’m sure many of you guys have, that they’ve got a lot of “game-used” sports memorabilia on the market these days, and I was thinking about maybe buying some. However,I wanted to do some research before I took the plunge.I’m willing to wager that the crooks selling these things easily outnumber the honest dealers, but I know that there have to be some people out there who sell genuine memorabilia.Do you guys have any recommendations for me?
I tried Googling it,but most of the websites that give recommendations recommend…themselves.Because of that,it’s not easy to tell which places are the best.
I’m not talking about big things like $5,000 NFL jerseys,I’m just talking about small things like they’d mount on a card.
Thanks a lot for reading, and thanks in advance for any replies.
Not a sports maven, but I’ve always been fascinated by the memorabilia market because it seems so trivially easy to fake sports items like signed baseballs, bats etc. then slap a fake certificate on them. It’s seems like a license to print money for unscrupulous people.
I couldn’t agree more.
Major League Baseball itself has ongoing auctions of game-used gear. I’ve never followed them so I don’t know how easy it is to get something. But you know it’s legit.
Here’s info on their new authentication program. Maybe that will help you decide which items to buy when you see them?
The NFL also has an auction site.
Sports Images is a distributor for sports memorabilia along with a whole host of other things. I have no idea if they sell directly but if you contact them they could give you some companies to contact.
They are reputable. I don’t know how much ‘used stuff’ they go through but they are they type of company you get signed pictures and jerseys through if you are in the business of selling them.
Moved from General Questions to the Game Room.

One of the trading-card companies sells NFL cards with swatches of game-used jerseys. I’ve got a Brad Johnson Buccaneers one that was like $5.
