Hello everyone. I’m doing a little bit of research on the scholarship of teaching and learning, and I have run into the following question that I’m just not sure how to phrase concisely in order to search scholarly databases. Here it is:
Does knowing the history or background of a subject tend to increase one’s appreciation and knowledge retention for that subject? For example, if I learn about some of the history of zoology, will I tend to appreciate the subject more and retain more of the knowledge I gain from taking such a course?
What I’m specifically looking for are links to scholarly articles published in well-respected peer-reviewed journals.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
