Korean-language TV

Here in Chicago there’s a station that seems to broadcast entirely in Korean. On the broadcast dial, it’s Channel 28. I don’t know what the call letters are, though, or what any of the programs are called, because the TV guides around here don’t acknowledge that it exists! Not only that, the TV listings on the Web don’t list it either! What’s up with that? The Spanish stations have always been shown in the TV listings, complete with titles in Spanish (Sábado Gigante, etc.). Why does the Korean station get snubbed?

It sounds like you’re referring to WOCH.
The FCC listing on Channel 28, Chicago, says it’s a low-power UHF with studios in Skokie.
But enough of the facts…here’s a little speculation:
The station probably operates on a shoestring and they haven’t gotten around to listing their programming with the usual suspects.

You are definately seeing a LPTV (low power station.) Actually there are a lot of them in Chicago. There is channel 36(LPTV out of Arlington Heights) a religous station. Channel 34 which rebroadcasts full power WJYS 62 Hammond Indiana. Also Channel 23. (Channel 23 is LPTV but has its antenna on Sears Tower so it reaches pretty far).

Though Ch 28 broadcasts in Korean it also hosts THE BOX. There is a LPTV on Channels 4 & 13 in Chicago which I can occasionally get.

I just can’t figure out why I can’t get full power Channel 62 but can receive LPTV Ch 34 which just rebroadcasts Channel 62.

Most LPTV won’t be included in channel listings as they aren’t full power. Channel 23 is an exception as because of its anntena location it reaches more people than it normally should.
