From here, which is a compilation of Suffrage debates in the early 1900s, a main argument is that women were not full citizens because they were not eligible for conscription.
From other sources online, I’ve read that many women feared they would be drafted in case of war, either to fight or as a conscripted labor force.
I like the Marquis de Sade’s idea better, anyway: State brothels where all women must serve at one time or another. Men too, why not. Think of it as like jury duty.
In Islam you are not allowed to enslave fellow Muslims, but us ferengi are fair game. <shrug>
Basically the usual case of our kind vs their kind. But I do agree, slavery is wrong, no matter what religion you follow [or don’t follow as the case may be.]
You can watch Al Mutairi describe her proposal on her own YouTube channel if you prefer. Or you can read about the story in any number of Arab-friendlysources. I don’t think you particularly need to be defensive about this. So a nutty woman ran for office in Kuwait. Big deal. That last article might give you a little insight into her motive, incidentally.
A Kuwaiti woman can select her husband by looking at the photos of the
So basically she wants to have some toyboys herself.
Something like that. But the story rings true. Slavery was a near human universal before the eighteenth century, so it’s not very surprising that many people are still for it.
A thousand years from now, the present interlude, with relatively low incidence of slavery, may be looked back on as a strange aberration. Perhaps they’ll read that, back in the 21th century, millions of Americans were in prison, and tens of millions of women world-wide were essentially owned by pimps. Then, the average citizen will conclude that their chattel slavery is no worse. I’m not making excuses for slavery apologists – I totally disagree with them. I’m just wondering if, taking a broad historical view, antislavery folks are in a minority.
It kinda depends. Maybe being this gal’s sex slave would be more pleasant than rotting away in a Kuwaiti prison. But maybe her kink is stabbing you with red hot pokers. Pros and cons.
 Another neoliberal globalizer. What’s wrong with the local sex slave markets we already have? Decent, friendly, Mom-and-Pimp operations! Is there no place for cottage industry in the 21st Century?!
Oh no you don’t. I saw Brokedown Palace and watch Law and Order: Criminal Intent. Thai women’s prisons are full of women who look like Claire Danes, Kate Beckinsale and Olivia Jane d’Abo. Nothing you say is going to convince me otherwise.
The top of every page having a quote by Hajj Amin al Husseini who is described as “Nazi collaborator and father of the holocaust” kind of did it for me. Father of the holocaust? He wasn’t a pleasant individual but calling him the father of the holocaust is absurd.
Well, that and the article links on the right side of the page: “Sweden’s Muslim Rape Wave: Muslim migrants represent the majority in 80% of rapes”, “Norway’s Muslim Rape Wave: Police: ‘100% of all rapes by muslims and immigrants’” and “Center for Security Policy: 'The U.S. Sharia threat is real.”
