KVM switch - computer question...

I got a cheap KVM switch to run my Linux Box ( Ubuntu 8.1 ) and my Win box ( XP-PRO ) I am only going to use the mouse & keyboard but stay with my 2 monitors.

The Win box will not see the mouse and keyboard at all. Linux boxes works fine. Swapped cables, used different mouse & keyboard, switched sides with the KVM for #1 & #2 position, ( Both sides will run the Linux box… ) Called Geek.com for tech support… All their ideas did not help… They tried… Nobody has a clue…

So IMO, it has to be a setting on the XP box. I went through the BOIS…

I tried to look in this XP box with the normal set up but of course I can’t do anything when the mouse or keyboard won’t work while the KVM switch is connected… ::: sheesh :::

Mouse and keyboard work on both machines in normal connection, the XP box just will not see the Mouse & Keyboard through the KVM switch.

There was no installation disk nor does it apparently need one.

The switching switch works and the led lights work…

Help !!!

A long shot you might try (or may have already tried):

Shut the windows box down, then hook up the KVM (with the mouse and keyboard attached to the KVM, of course), make sure the KVM set to attach to the windows box, then boot.

Done that but may try again… Thanks

Sorry to be negative, but I’ve tried several different times with several different brands of KVM switches, and two of these times I had pretty bright corporate IT people helping - and I’ve never gotten a KVM to work. Never. I don’t think it’s worth trying.

I highly recommend Synergy. It acts like a KVM switch, but you can switch screens by simply scrolling the mouse from one to the other. You can also use keyboard shortcuts to swap, or to lock the kb/m to a particular screen. Oh, and clipboard will also transfer between boxes(mostly).

Provided you have 2 monitors(which I note you do), its a thousand times better than a kvm.
