A couple of recent news stories have indicated Diane Wiest isn’t happy on Law and Order and will leave at the end of the season.
Re-casting the show has been a full-time job for Dick Wolf, so let’s help him out. Who’s your pick to be the new D.A.
I’d wager that he or she should be somewhat mature (i.e., at least middle-aged) and have a certain “New York” aura.
So with that as the only guideline, I propose:
James Caan, as a self-made, Rudy Giuliani-type tough talker who wants the scum off the streets and couldn’t care less about how his staff does it.
How about Michael Moriarty, in a shocking move? I wouldn’t mind seeing his insufferable (yet highly watchable) sanctimoniousness square off with Sam Waterston’s I-bend-the-rules-for-a-living situational ethics.
Glad to see Dianne Wiest is leaving. She’s the first casting change (on a show that has seen a million of them) that I really didn’t dig.
if this is true even I, a prime L&O basher, will admire it.
Whomever they pick, could they have a character who doesn’t bend/ignore the rules whenever it suits them?
John Cunningham, a distinguished Broadway actor, with a warmth and intelligence that would be most appropriate. Hell, he’s been a Repeat Offender so many times they might as well hire him full-time.
I am dismayed if it’s true Wiest is leaving, though. I wonder why she took the part to begin with–everybody’s had ten years to see exactly how little the DA in this show has to do!
Love the James Caan and Michael Moriarity suggestions.
How 'bout Morgan Freeman?
