Ladies, don't we mostly agree about bald guys?

You’re probably right. The ones I see are so sadly bad that you have to wonder if the guys own mirrors. There’s one man who rides on our busline, who either has to be 70or is someone who has led a very rough life. He wears a dark brown rug that looks like a castoff from the Beatles era, and really doesn’t go well with his gray stubble and wisps poking out from underneath.

(off topic) silver and gray haired women are quite attractive to a lot of guys in that same age group. When I was online dating, I was frankly dismayed at the handful of such women on the sites, compared with the hundreds with damaged “crayon-hair.”

I’d let my grey show with no problem if it was just about the grey itself, but on me it isn’t. If my hair is grey is washes my complexion out and adds 10 years.

When a dude who is going bald shaves it all off, I hardly think that he is “embracing” his baldness; more often than not, he’s trying to hide it.

If you are obviously balding and you don’t shave it off, then you are embracing it. Going cueball is actually a slick attempt at deception.
mmm

Really? All women should agree on this, or any topic? I bet you’d be the first to take offense if a post was titled, **Gentlemen, ****don’t we mostly agree about [chubby/greying/sagging/whatever] women?
**

So if a guy doesn’t have any hair, he’s hiding the fact that he doesn’t have any hair?

Of course, I was the first one in my logic class to get the professor’s signature on a drop card.

But it isn’t really hiding…we can still see where the hair is (or isn’t) as it regrows after a day or three. But it (generally) looks better to trim it or shave it. “Embracing baldness” by letting existing hair grow long, or worse, going to the ponytail or combover, just doesn’t look good on most men, even the ones who think they are ugly. I’m sure there must be a few exceptions to this, but I can’t think of a single one.

Heck, my husband has a full head of hair and I prefer it when he shaves it short because it makes him look better…sexier and tougher, I guess!

I don’t think a lot of people have attractively shaped heads, so I think close-cut hair looks better on a balding guy than full cueball much of the time.

As for longer hair on a balding guy, it just depends on how he is balding… receding hairlines can look fine with longer hair, but with the bald spot of the crown it looks horrendous to me if hair is longer than an inch or so.

And I hate all facial hair but stubble/a light full beard, personally.

Yep, there are women who do not agree with that. I can’t think of a single person, male or female, who looks better with a completely bald head. Many look fine with very short hair, but none at all? Nope, that’s not an attractive look on anyone. Even Friar Tuck is a better look than Uncle Fester.

I wanted to put buy plugs. They look best. They’re costly and I think over time you have to get them replaced. So, I didn’t know if that was a good option or one most would do. Even Prince William doesn’t have plugs.

Gray foxes are hot. I’m in my 20s.

Yes! They’re hot!

Aren’t those the ones that look like Barbie doll hair? Or is there different levels of hair plugs, some that look ridiculous and some that look better?

Confession time:

I had no idea, whatsoever, that Ted Danson was wearing a hair piece when he was in Cheers. Like NONE.

It is possible to get something that looks fairly natural, apparently.

Barring that, a short cut would probably be my preference.

It depends on the size of the plugs, larger being worse, and also how well they’re aligned with the natural direction of the scalp hair.

I’ve seen photos of Hugh Laurie with a big bald patch, but when I see the crown of his head on House there’s no bald spot at all.

Well, and they guys in the ‘Hair Club for Men’ adds seem to look decent with their hair. I’d sort of like to see it in real life, but I guess if it’s really that good I probably have and didn’t even know it!

I voted for trimming it close, because I don’t like the shiny head look. But generally I agree - if your hair starts departing, looks best when you let it all go.

Yeah, that’s where I am. I know I would look like an idiot with a fully shaved head.

I started losing it when I was 18, so in my early 20s I looked like I was 31-32 ish. I’m now 36 (37 in a week!) and people have been telling me of late that I look like I am in my early thirties, so I seem to have crossed from looking older than I am to looking younger. Maybe I’ll permanently look like I’m 31-32 …

My husband is really obsessed with his hair loss. He worries that I won’t find him attractive any longer. Personally, I barely notice what’s going on atop his skull. It’s just not a big deal to me, provided said skull isn’t bleeding or dirty. I guess I’m a bad wife because I don’t always notice when he gets a haircut.

Thanks to paternal genetics, my hair is thinning considerably. My dad’s sisters all wore wigs by the time they were my age - at least for “occasions.” I toyed with trying Rogaine but decided it just isn’t that big a deal. Instead, I just try to keep it clean and well-groomed and save my worries for important thing. It’s just hair.
