Ladies: periods and your skivvies [tmi]

It is that time where the raging crimson beast has come to eat my uterus. The beast enjoys foiling my best attempts at keeping it confined to the device of my choice and makes my underwear a little more red than it was in the morning.

So, a poll to ask my fellow Dope wimmins how many times the beast is victorious.

This is why my “period panties” are all black.

Mine has gone nuts. I hate tampons. HATE them. I’ve always been a pad person but for the last 6 months or so it has been so heavy that I have to wear both a tampon and a pad to keep from bleeding all over myself. It is almost enough to make you look forward to menopause, I swear.

It’s more often than never but less often than once a period. Maybe every few periods.

Same as FS with me, so I didn’t answer the poll. Also, most of my oopses are contained by a minipad.

I use pads, but I need to make basically a pad diaper. Don’t ask me how when I am sitting I can end up the back of my underwear being attacked.

All my underwear is black so it’s not such a bother.

I bleed heavily and unpredictably - I use a Divacup and I always overflow it the first couple days of my period. I’ll wear a pantyliner to catch leaks.

Black underwear is smart. I need more of that. I wear my black ones on the end days of my period, when there’s not enough blood for tampons (just a few drops) and when I don’t want to wear a pad, even a small one.

I only have a few pairs of non-black underwear and those are only if I’m wearing something that you can see through.

It would be more practical just to have it all be black. Still, there is a certain whimsy one derives from putting on a pair of cherry underoos that black underwear just doesn’t give you.

Very rarely, now I use a Mooncup (UK equivalent of a Diva Cup, I think) - maybe twice in the last year or so. Prior to that, I used pads mostly, and often had leaks. I have lots of black underwear…

Well, unlike most gals on the Dope I have very light, short periods.

I use pads (because tampons don’t work that well for me) and I change them quite often to be fresh, but it’s really not a problem.

When I was a teen it was a totally different ball of wax tho.

I’m going on 8 months without a period Og bless my lovely surgeon but the reason for the surgery was excessive bleeding due to fibroids.

For the last 3 years of my bleeding life I couldn’t go more than an hour without changing my (initially) super tampon + overnight pad (and later) Diva cup + overnight pad. Many a pair of underwear and several skirts and pants were victims of the benevolent Mother Nature, and black was always the colour of choice. Now I can’t believe I waited so long. When I went to the hospital for the presurgical appointment the very nice nurse reached for my hand and said “Oh my dear, this is going to change your life” She was so sweet and so intense and I thought it couldn’t be that big a change. I was wrong, she was right.

This, except I wouldn’t wear a pad if you paid me. Tampons that are regularly changed = not a leak to be found. I remember a few times when I was a teenager, but usually that was me starting my period and not being prepared with supplies. Certainly I haven’t had a leak in at least 7 or 8 years.

Gee, and here I thought I was the only one who bought only black underwear!:stuck_out_tongue:

Not only for that reason, but I do.

For me, I voted a few times but usually its only like once a period if that.
Once in a great while, I wake up with a big mess on my hands, which is SOOO annoying! Clothing, sheets, me, all laid to waste. :smack:

Since I wear pads, even on heavier days when I am also wearing a tampon, I often wear the same pair of panties for a few days during…WTH? Unless I DO leak, they are still clean, just serving as a holder for the pads. :o

I hate tampons, too  The ONLY ones I can tolerate are OB brand and even those often feel uncomfortable. I only wear them on my few heavy days and never to bed. Ick and ouch!

I voted for “a couple times” - I’m on the pill continuously so I shouldn’t really be having periods, but sometimes they sneak up. Since I no longer have premenstrual cramping as a warning (hooray pill!), I may not realize anything is up until I get spotting. I don’t really have overflow; I’m on the DivaCup and my flow isn’t that huge typically.

When I was a teenager, that was another matter. I swear a male cop might think someone was murdered on my bed after an occasional overnight overflow. :smack:

I suspect this is a quirk of my own anatomy, but I can use a tampon (inserted properly so I can’t feel it) and have leaks all over the place and pull the tampon out and it’s totally dry.

The primary reason is that I get really bad cramps when I wear one tho.

In high school: a few times. Now: never. The new ultra absorbency has changed my life.

The first 24-36 hours of my period, I have to use an ultra OB tampon AND an overnight pad, and change both of them every hour (hour and fifteen minutes when I’m teaching, since that’s the length of my classes). After that, I can back things down to an ultra changed every hour or so and a maxipad to catch leaks, then to smaller and smaller sizes of each until the last day, when I can be a normal human being and just wear one or the other.

I still have an small incident or two every period. All of my period underwear are black, as are most of my pants and skirts.

This (minus the Diva cup - never tried it). I’m a happy new member of the no-uterus club, so new in fact I sometimes forget I won’t be bleeding anymore, then I realize I no longer have to stock up on loads of overnight pads and Super+ tampons. Yeah!
