Lady Chablis has died

I’ve never seen Midnight In The Garden Of Good And Evil, nor am I into the drag scene. But I did see her on an episode of Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern. He said, ‘She’s a wonderful, wonderful person to show their side of the city. I wouldn’t think of coming here without spending the day with her.’

She was only 59.

I liked the novel but loathed the movie, including they changes they made to her character, but she was one of the few things watchable in it. She was a natural. (True, she was playing a version of herself, but as any number of cameos in any number of TV shows and movies will prove, many people can’t do that believably.)

As The Doll said herself, “Two tears in a bucket, motherfuck it.” RIP.

She is the only person I can think of who stole a book by upstaging everyone else in it.

RIP Lady Chablis.

I saw her in a drag show many years ago and will have that image in my mind rather than any pictures people dig up showing her in declining health.
