Is it me, or were these the worst crop of commercials we’ve had in years? And by worst, I mean you couldn’t remember them afterwards! The only ones that I recalled were:
The Cat Herders.
Guy getting his Mountain Dew out of a cheetah’s gullet.
Christopher Reeve walks again. (SFX. Poor man’s still paralyzed IRL.) I was actually moved. I almost wept. “If only…”
The rest of the ads literally evaporated from my brain after they were aired. If I have to be reminded what they were the next day, then they FAILED!
(At least we didn’t get any more of those damn frogs. I think that series has run its course.)
Agreed that they overall sucked. I did think the e*trade “we just wasted 2 million dollars” one was funny. And the Gap parody.
The cat herders was the most memorable one.
But the Christopher Reeve one just totally pissed me off. I mean, it was a really well done commercial, but it was for a god damn investment firm. Jesus. How much more pointlessly manipulative can you get.
Didn’t like the wizard of oz one either. digitally fucking with old movies like that cheezes me off.
And that batch of piss-poor ads was all I watched the damn game for.
Far too many “We’re generation-X dotcoms, see how cheesy and lame we are–it’s hip to be square” excretions. Fucking sock puppets?? Like we don’t know you’re spending several trillion dollars a milisecond for the airtime? Puh-leeze.
The cat herders were cool, but I’m damned if I can remember the company they were advertising.
Mountain Dew can suck my big white non-genX ass. Christ, if I need caffeine, I’ll pound espresso. If I want to hear shitty versions of Queen songs, I’ll listen to Wierd Al.
Chris Reeve might be a great guy. But I’m over it. All I could think was “damn, he must need money.”
And don’t get me started on the goddamn hafltime show.
The cat herders were brought to you by EDS. It is now my goal in life to start a really big company, solely so I can outsource my computing needs to EDS. That commercial rocked.
I now return you to your regularly scheduled rant against the faux-hip-ironic dotcom commercials.
While we’re talking about the commercials, what was the song (title and artist, please!)used in the Oldmobile ad? There was a bunch of goofy-looking people singing about “get in my car…”
The song has triggered a memory, but I can’t place it.
I am writing to the NFL at this moment in regards to that damn quasi-forced culture half time show that offended so many of us. As well as all those damn crappy commercials.
What was that shit all about!?!!? to see how damn stupid we could make the best (scripted and prepared and pre-destined by $ outcome) superbowl in years.
MR MADE FOR TV SUPERHERO won the game on BS and 2 seperate incidents of cheating. KURT Warners wife needs hair too!
That mt. dew commerical absoultely sucked. just what I wanted to see, some guy raming his arm down some computer generated cats mouth to grab a soda…what the hell was that? That has to be quite possibily the worst commerical I’ve ever seen…
That is just the peak of the bullshit that was created for this superbowl’s commerical audience
