I have had my new laminate floor for 1 day. Today my friends and I got the piano back in, but not without one 18 inch mistake. It seems a wheel fell off while we lifted it over the threshold and it dug a nice groove. We didn’t even notice until we got the piano in place.
Anyway, my wife is very sad (mad).
Is there a fix, some sort of putty, that can patch it without being too noticeable? Is there something short of tearing up the planks to replace the two damaged ones?
Yeah there is most manufacturers offer a repair marker or patch. Look up the manufacturer and see what you can get. Unfortunately for laminate floors making them look good as new after damages isn’t possible.
The best fix, unfortunately, will be to disassemble the floor to reach the damaged section and replace those boards.
There are patching products that kinda-sorta-almost-maybe might blend in for fixing small dents or chips, but they’re not up to the task of hiding an 18 inch long scratch, and that scratch will be visible and will mock you forever.
There are lots of wood-filling products out there that will work just fine. Do you have any leftover scraps of flooring? Take a piece to Home Depot, or whatever, and talk to them about matching it. If not just try to have a good idea about the colour you’re trying to match. Seriously, there are tonnes of products that could fill in a scratch and make it unnoticeable.
