Lamont Cranston

Must of got hold of some bad red coal.
For some reason I thought he was a gad.

There’s also “Shazoom”. Strength of an oz, strength of another ox…

I believe those were the Adolescent Radioactive Black-belt Hamsters

Probably not what the original poster had in mind, but Sydney Australia’s theatre life in the late 1970s was dominated by Lamont Cranston Productions, responsible for various comedy reviews and musicals.

Among ones I fondly remember are Dingo Girl, an attempt at healing the nation from a great tragedy, and ‘Pearls before Swine’, the very first ever Vietnam War era musical [despite what Miss Saigon likes to claim].

You would drag those damn turtles into this. :dubious:
Who owned the Helldiver?

Dr Clark Savage, jr

So now Clark and Kent have both gotten name-checked in this thread.

Does MISTER Savage actually have a doctorate? Or is he the Wolowitz of the Five?

Fans of the pulp genre might want to track down a handful of short stories from the 70s by Philip Jose Farmer, “Greatheart Silver,” who kind of exists in continuum with these old-timers.

Oh, yeah. My husband is a huge pulp fan; has a ton of Shadow books.

Surely you mean “The lovely Margo Lane.” She was always described as “lovely.”

Oh, yes! Thanks.

I know this, but interestingly only from a MAD Magazine parody (I’ve got a bunch of MAD paperbacks that were my dad’s when he was a kid in the 50s/60s).

Doc Savage received an MD from Johns Hopkins in 1925, and is a physician and surgeon. He received training in many scientific fields from his father and many other specialists but he may not have received a Ph.D.

What was the Lone Ranger’s real name, and what was the name of his brother? For that matter, what was the name of the gang that killed his brother? :dubious:

Reid was the surname. The Cavendish Gang were the baddies.

The Shadow, Lamont Cranston, is significant to the wonderful novel ‘Mystery’ by Peter Straub. I just happen to be re-reading ‘Mystery’ for the zillionth time so this caught my eye. Read it. You’ll like it.

And that’s why you should always ask for Blue Coal!

I’ve always wondered if the blue dye/powder made a bigger mess than the coal itself.

Only Billy is a Batson, Mary is his sister but has a different last name Bromfield, Freddy Freeman is unrelated.

And SHAZAM’s meaning changes depending on who it’s for. Or at least it meant something different for Black Adam than it did for Cap.

(and I’m basing this on the excellent Jerry Ordway Power of Shazam series of the 90’s, I’m sure other versions might vary a bit)

What is the name of the Lone Ranger’s nephew’s horse?
