Lance Armstrong cleared. Can they finally leave him alone?

It wasn’t my statement to defend - I was pointing out that 7 out of 50 people on one team had passed away (some by accident, one stroke (IIRC), etc).

How this compares to the population of people born in 1947 (assuming the average players’ age to be 25 in 1972, 65 today)… that’s for ChicagoJeff to prove.

However, since we’re discussing this, here are the following offensive stat-getters and starters (since there are no statistics for the OL) for the team that are passed:

Ron Shanklin, WR, died of colon cancer at 55
Joe Gilliam, QB, died of a heart attack at 50
Ray Mansfield, C, died of a heart attack while hiking the Grand Canyon, 55

3 players, one on the line, leaving the other 4-5 line starters alive. How is that “the entire offensive line from the 1970’s”? I just showed that 80% of the 1972 OL is still alive, does this mean that everybody else who played on the Steelers in the 70’s are dead and I just happened to pick the one year that’s a statistical anomaly? Somehow, I doubt it.

Regardless, I see that ChicagoJeff hasn’t bothered to come back with the citation, so I think he realizes his point is moot. Wrong, even.

The saga continues! Armstrong has re-filed his lawsuit against USADA (after trimming his submission from 80 to 25 pages) alleging that “USADA’s action is a violation of Armstrong’s Fifth Amendment Due Process rights, whereby the Agency is abusing its authority.”

Read it all here! Extra! Extra!

OK, I’ll be in the kitchen preparing a couple of batches of popcorn. Anybody wants?

My congress critter in the House has written a letter to the USADA basically asking/telling them to stop their actions against Lance and the USPS team. I haven’t read it yet, but you can read it here:

http://sensenbrenner.house.gov/News/DocumentSingle.aspx?DocumentID=303025

I’m not sure why he cares, except that he’s a Republican and probably doesn’t want to see the taxpayers pay for this. Maybe Trek (based in Wisconsin, and I think in his district) has asked him to speak up.

From the extracts I’ve read it sounds like the congressman is a fanboy. The letter reiterates the same old LA talking points.
