Lane change number

This review from Car and Driver of a 2007 Honda Fit says it has a “lane change number” of 71.4 mph, besting a Ferrari F430 Spider F1.

It looks like it’s a Car and Driver test of how fast the car can go while changing from the right lane to the left lane and back within 160 feet.

According to C&D:

Emergency-lane-change maneuver: The skidpad measures a car’s steady-state grip, but to gauge the dynamic handling characteristics of a car’s springs, dampers, and suspension geometry, we run it through an emergency-lane-change test. This is set up on a 160-foot-long cone course with two 12-foot-wide lanes. The right-hand lane is blocked at the 80-foot mark. The driver starts the test in the right lane, swerves into the left, and then immediately cuts back into the right. The idea here is to go through the course as quickly as possible while keeping the car within the marked lanes. So if the car hits a cone, we don’t count the run. With a set of Alge timing lights, we note the quickest run without any cone knockdowns and calculate the average speed maintained through the course.
