Has anyone ever heard the phrase, " to catch your lunch" as a synonym/euphemism for dying? Roger Ebert uses it several times in his book, “I Hated, Hated, Hated This Movie,” but I had never heard it before. Is it some kind of regionalism? Any help you can provide, Teeming Millions! Thanks in advance.

Wow, I have heard “bought the farm”, but never “caught their lunch”, though saying that someone “ate your lunch” for you indicates that you were seriously taken advantage of in some way.
There is of course the possibility that he made it up.
I’ve heard it, but I can’t remember from where (probably Ebert ). fwiw, I’m in Wisconsin, maybe I just heard it around here. I’m always looking for new death euphemisms anyway.
