LANrevAgentTempFolder

On my root C: drive I have 277 folders named LANrevAgentTempFolder with various numbers appended. Most of them appear empty but a few contain tiny files. All told the 277 folders have 159 files for a total size of about 8KB.

Can I go ahead and delete them all or are they needed for something?

I’ve tried searching on the web about what these are but have come up basically empty. Even explanations of what Lanrev actually is and does seem shrouded in mystery. It sounds like it may have something to do with running a MAC like operating system on my PC, but I can’t get beyond that. Any dopers out there able to shed any light on what Lanrev does in plain language?

LANrev is now called Absolute Manage. It’s basically software that allows an administrator to remotely manage software on other systems all from one location. For example, if you have 1,000 people in your company, your IT manager can use the software to update all of the software on all 1,000 computers remotely. The IT manager doesn’t have to leave his office. This is a huge time savings over walking over to every single computer and checking each computer’s revision for software and updating each system individually.

It’s available for MAC and PC. It has nothing at all to do with running a MAC OS on a PC.

LANrev changed its name because it was the software that a school in Philadelphia was using to remotely spy on students. They were using the theft protection feature of the software that allowed it to take pictures via the computer’s built in camera, intended to be used only if the computer was stolen. The school was using it on computers that weren’t marked as stolen though.

I don’t know enough about how LANrev/Absolute Manage works to give you any advice about the temp files. It may use those to determine what updates have been loaded onto your system. You can check the company’s web site. Maybe they have a support forum where you can find the answer, or possibly a customer support line that you could call.

Thanks for the response. If I’m just running my own PC without any company Sysadmin support is there any reason for me to have this installed on my computer, or can I safely uninstall it?
