Lanterns (the green kind)

Somewhere in the Mid-west. Somewhere semi-rural, where you can shoot guns in your backyard without the neighbors being concerned, but still have them close by. I’m guessing somewhere like Smallville, IN.

He shouldn’t be, he knows Guy Gardner has it at this point. I believe he was surprised there wasn’t a green mark he had noticed on Hal’s ring finger last time he took it off.

Do we know that for certain? I just happened to be scrolling through Threads and someone asked if Guy had Hal’s ring. James Gunn replied with “all will be answered.”

I mentioned him earlier in the thread, in the context that Superman and Peacemaker Season 2 are both canon in the version of the DCU Lanterns is in. So yes, he needs to be involved somehow.

I mean, do we know that Guy has Hal’s ring versus having a different one?

I think its inferred. They weren’t going to give John a new ring, they only wanted to replace Hal.

We do not. All we know at this point is that Guy has a ring.

I think so too.

At the end of the first episode, I assumed Guy had the ring since we know he’s running around with one.

I wonder if there’s going to be a theme of John getting passed over despite being the official backup for Hal for a decade. It would fit in with the narrative of the past couple of episodes.

I don’t think it is implied. John looked genuinely surprised when he checked Hal’s finger.

There can be more than one ring.

Exactly. My theory is that the Guardians give Guy his ring after Superman first appeared.

That’s a good theory.

In the comic books, there have certainly been multiple Green Lanterns of Earth, operating simultaneously, each with their own rings, at certain times. Back when I was regularly reading in the mid-late '80s, Jordan, Stewart, and Gardner all were active Green Lanterns.

John is from Midway City. Canonically somewhere Michigan-ish.

Ah, so Detroit, typically the worst city in the US even compared to 80s New York or LA. “Send him to Detroit!”

Just finished the third episode.

After everything that came before in the episode, the phrase “You’re like the Midwest Huxtables” was some seriously dark comedy.

Specially given the timing, in 2016 it was already past the Cosby scandal.

Remember that this is an alternative universe; who knows if the Bill Cosby scandal even occurred there.

Nonetheless, it was an example of the racism via epic ignorance that John’s mother had been talking about earlier.

I thought it was fully intended as a backwards compliment, Hal was obviously extremely upset at even having to be there.
