Hal doesn’t know that John is intended as his replacement, but I think he still resents having him there as a backup.
He does angrily tell John “the only way you are getting this ring is over my dead body” right as they leave the house, he has to at least be thinking John is his replacement.
The plot is finally starting to thicken.
If the Manhunter isn’t Zoe, who else could it be?
What really makes me wonder is the Guardian. She is not who she says, at least not completely. She told John that Hal had been filing unflattering reports however Hal hadn’t backed up his consciousness in years, was he really sending in regular reports for a trainee he didn’t want?
I saw some speculation that says she is the recently dead guardian and is working with Sinestro to create the yellow lanterns. Also, how did she know that Hal visited Sinestro? And how does Sinestro know about John? It also seems like she is using John’s parents as a lever of control against John.
The show is really building something interesting. After episode 4, I am now wondering if 2026 dead Hal has a crystalized heart. I think that there may be more than one Manhunter…
What name did the Sheriff drop when she moved from Gotham? Anyone else notice that Sheriff Kane has the same last name as Bruce Wayne’s mom? I wonder if they are cousins?
A bunch of people online noticed that, though they tended to draw the connection towards Kate Kane AKA Batwoman. I had forgotten that Martha Wayne was originally Martha Kane.
I streamed this week’s episode on HBO Max and, in the short “making of” featurette that airs after it, several of the creatives working on the show explicitly said “Zoe is the Manhunter.” I can only presume that this is completely confirmed.
There is more going on than just the Manhunter. The preview showed what appears to be a drop of blood going into an eye. I’m pretty certain that is a reference to Red Lanterns.
Another thing, often when John is in a dark room, waiting for the guardian and in bed with Zoe, he seems to often be bathed in different colours of light. My new wild ass speculation is that they are setting John up to eventually be the White Lantern.
So he’s going to have white power?
Ironically, he will have to fight the Black Body Lantern.
Is this going to be like the second spiderverse movie where I sat baffled because I didn’t have a clue who was who and what was what and it was for people who’d read ALL the comics?
I don’t know but I have been reading on Wikipedia to get background information, like about the White Lanterns.
Doubtful. This is being done like a gritty crime procedural, and things like superpowers and aliens are more of a framing device than anything else. All of that backstory gives more meaning to comic book nerds (like me) but it isn’t at all necessary to understand or appreciate the story that they’re presenting.
Not at all. I think the only Green Lantern comics I’ve read were the Green Arrow/Green Lantern run from the seventies, and I’m keeping up.
All the lore that’s in the show has so far been explained in the show. Everything else in here is just speculation.
I guess if you’re being particular about the word “know,” but he does tell Sinestro that Jon’s his replacement.
Oh, I’m keeping up, but nothing really has been mentioned about colours, for instance and Sinestro being red. I assume it will be explained if there, it just seems as if people are speculating on things way above my head, and I was worried it was going that way.
I’m long since done with Marvel movies in the sense of working out whats going on, theyre just smash bang shows to me now. DCU seems much more sensible at the moment, and hope that doesn’t go that way…
Sinestro is red though.
He’s not super red, because the light in that cell is dim, but his skin is red. He also has pointy ears, but again it’s kind of hard to see. It’s a little clearer in this promotional image for the show.
And of course he’s not human, since he was Hal Jordan’s mentor, and Hal is the first human Lantern.
The Lanterns of other colors are nerdy comic book speculation and to my recollection isn’t something that has been mentioned in the show (and may never be).
I don’t read superhero comics at all, and I’ve had no trouble following any of the superhero movies of recent times. They’ve all done a decent job of explaining both the fantasy weird things and the earthbound regular things without me getting frustrated.
So far Lanterns has been about a grumpy cynical old guy who is suspicious of everyone and everything, for good reason as the whole array of characters seem like they’re dodgy as fuck.
