I have a DELL laptop (inspiron 3700) that was used in my office. My boss used to have the external mouse hooked up, but when used as a laptop, the nipple mouse and the touchpad are both active. I can’t find the mouse configuration settings to turn off the touchpad… when i look at the mouse settings it’s for the external… i don’t see any reference to the choice between nipple or touchpad… Any ideas? this touchpad seems to be so sensitive that sometimes waving my thumb over it just slightly will move cursor or whatever… please help.
If the external mouse is USB, try getting one of those USB->PS/2 converters. On a laptop of mine, plugging in a mouse to the PS/2 port automatically shuts off the touchpad. Don’t know if this is standard or not.
My ultimate goal is to only use the nipple mouse… When I follow the directions on the DELL site… there is no Touch tab on my mouse settings? Any ideas? It lists the mouse as the ps2/blah blah… should i run hardware detection so the touchpad and track stick are turned on… i don’t have the external hooked up at the moment.
A couple of thoughts…
If astro’s link doesn’t work for you (like the Mouse Properties window doesn’t have a “Touch” tab), you need to look in Dell Support and download the Input Device drivers for the Alps Touch Pad.
As yet another option, you can also enable/disable the Touch Pad in the BIOS setup as well.
